Taking care of your e-bike in winter is important to keep it in good condition and prolong its life. Here are some tips for maintenance after a winter ride:
1. Clean the bike after each ride
Remove snow and dirt: Rinse the bike gently with lukewarm water (never use a pressure washer as it can damage electrical components). Make sure to remove salt and slush, which can cause corrosion.
Wipe the bike: Wipe with a dry cloth, especially on the battery, display and other electrical components.
2. Battery care
Bring the battery inside: Store the battery indoors at room temperature when the bike is not in use. Cold temperatures can adversely affect battery performance and life.
Charge the battery correctly: If you don't plan to use the bike for a while, charge the battery to around 50-80%. Avoid charging it to 100% if it is not going to be used immediately.
3. Check and lubricate the chain
Clean the chain: After every ride, you should clean the chain to remove dirt, salt and slush.
Lubricate the chain: use a chain lubricant suitable for winter conditions (e.g. an oil that is resistant to moisture and cold).
4. Tyres and air pressure
Check the air pressure: Lower the tyre pressure slightly to get better grip on icy and snowy surfaces.
Use winter tyres: If you ride a lot on icy roads, consider using studded tyres for added safety.
5. Protect the electrical components
Cover sensitive parts: If possible, use covers for the display and battery to prevent water or snow from entering.
Check cables and wiring.
